Gratitude

Writer's picture: J.S.DJ.S.D

Life can be tough sometimes.

The daily grind,

The expectations of others,

The lack of empathy,

The constant struggle to make ends meet,

From dawn till dusk,

And then back to dawn,

The missed meals,

The skipped breakfasts,

The cold dinners.

Years away from home,

Bills to pay,

And health that sustains it all.

But every now and then,

When I take a stroll,

For a few hours, if not, just a few minutes,

Enjoy a warm cup of coffee,

Whether I buy it or make it myself,

And find a quiet spot,

Savor that coffee,

Let the warmth of the cup seep into my soul,

The scent of the beans filling my heart with a sense of calm joy,

My weary body relaxes,

My anxious mind soothes,

And I gently remind myself of how far I’ve come,

Allowing my heart to swell with pride for how strong I’ve been,

Through all those years,

All the hard work,

All the sweat and blood.

I let every part of my being feel that deep sense of gratitude,

Perhaps the only one that truly comes,

With living an honest life.
